Pan African Eco-communities Network (PEN ) Initiative
Brief about the Pan African Eco-communities Network (PEN) Initiative:
Eco-community is an intentional or traditional community that is consciously designed through locally owned, participatory processes to regenerate their social and natural environment. The four (4) dimensions of sustainability (ecology, economy, social and cultural) are integrated in a holistic approach.
Eco-communities embrace the concept of ‘luxurious simplicity’, celebrating and recreating low-impact lifestyles that expand a sense of care, responsibility and wellbeing. The PEN Initiative seeks to promote thousands of eco-communities around the continent as a place to demonstrate how African communities can transition to a fully sustainable future.
PEN Initiative aims to increase community –based capacity for climate action through climate change adaptation, mitigation, climate finance and technologies and to address poverty and sustainable development concerns by establishing Pan African, Sub-regional and National programs that would support eco-communities development. Our target is to transition over 50,000 traditional communities into eco-communities by 2063 across Africa
