This quote, which is actually referring to relationships, but I think relates to communes also, bc the state wants us to invest in very specific kinds of nuclear ‘hetero’ families, not in communal kinship:

It wants you to devalue friendship, to stay isolated from everyone who isn’t your romantic partner, to be a self interested individual with no ties of commitments to anyone but your spouse. Why?
